The Campbell Family, Dorking

Earlier this year I attended a training course with the wonderful Brook Davis hosted by Photography Farm. We love family shoots but felt we were striving for some more genuine family moments to document, and wanted some inspiration on how to go about documenting a family as they spend real time together, so they look back and feel a heartfelt pang of recognition of their day-to-day life and emotions. For most family shoots, it is a fun occasion to look forward to, get dressed up, and pose in a way they think will  look good on camera..and it does! But imagine having some pictures to look back on that captured those little personalities, the scowl, the eye rolls, the laughter! So this will be the direction we will be going with our family portraits and we can’t wait! Brooke also got us to experiment with light and a darker style of photography. I decided to go a step further and present to you a story board of the wonderful Campbell family entirely in Black and White, not something I have been brave enough to do before. It was a difficult decision as Shannon was wearing a beautiful red coat, but I wanted to try this. If you would like to see some color versions please visit our Instagram to have a peep! We would love to know what you think…

Although this was not taken at their home, we had a lovely time watching them interact and play together. Oscar was a star and such a sweet little boy! I loved his hat with the little ears! Thank you for helping us on this journey…
